The Heart Behind Handmade: Why We Show Up at Local Markets in Virginia

4 min read

There’s something holy about handmade work.

Not cute.
Not trendy.
Not “aesthetic.”
Holy.

Because when you’re a maker — especially a maker with purpose — every single thing you create carries a piece of you. A piece of your growth. A piece of your healing. A piece of the faith it took to keep going when the numbers didn’t make sense and the support didn’t show up the way you hoped.

And that’s why I still show up at markets — especially local markets in Virginia.
Even when life is life-ing.
Even when I’m tired.
Even when the booth fees feel like they’re trying to choke the budget.
Even when it’s easier to just throw everything online and pray somebody finds me.

I show up because purpose shows up.

🛍️ Markets Are Where Purpose Meets People

People think markets are just tables and tents. Cute little Saturday pop-up vibes.
But if you’ve ever worked one, you know: it’s spiritual.

Every single market or vendor show I've done, God puts somebody in front of me who needed a word, a journal, a prayer, or just a moment of being seen.

Sometimes it’s the teacher who’s burned out and ready to quit — the one looking for handmade teacher gifts that feel personal.
Sometimes it’s a mom who hasn’t bought anything for herself in years.
Sometimes it's a college student looking for purpose.
Sometimes it’s a grandparent looking for meaningful handmade holiday gifts that speak to the heart.
And sometimes it’s someone who didn’t even know they needed encouragement until they stopped at my table.

Markets let me minister without saying “I’m ministering.”
The products speak for themselves.
And God does what He does.

🖤 Handmade Is Personal

Handmade means somebody’s hands… somebody’s heart… somebody’s life… touched this product.

When you buy handmade, you’re not just getting:

  • a tumbler

  • a glass cup

  • a journal

  • a tee

  • a mug

  • a bookmark

  • whatever it is that caught your eye

You’re getting someone’s story.
Someone’s late nights.
Someone’s prayers.
Someone’s belief that what they make matters.

And that’s why people come to me for handmade gifts — because they want something meaningful, intentional, and rooted in real purpose. Especially around the holidays when folks are craving unique Christmas gifts for teachers and loved ones.

You don’t get that from factory-made Amazon chaos.
Handmade hits different.

✨ Markets Keep Me Connected

Social media is cool.
Online sales are convenient.
But markets?
Markets remind me why I started.

They remind me that:

  • people still crave connection

  • teachers still need encouragement

  • handmade still matters

  • community is still powerful

  • showing up still changes things

Every smile at my table, every “this is exactly what I needed,” every “my sister would LOVE this,” every “I’ve been following you online,” fuels me in a way no algorithm ever could.

Markets let me hug the people who support me.
Laugh with them.
Pray with them.
Serve them.
And love them — the CoRo way.

That’s why vendor shows and markets will always be part of CoRo’s heart.

💛 Why I’ll Keep Showing Up

Even when money gets tight.
Even when the weather is rude.
Even when the days are long and the loading carts are disrespectful.
Even when doubt tries to make an appearance.

I’ll still show up.
Because every market gives me a chance to:

  • shine light

  • spread faith

  • pour into people

  • share the products God trusted me to create

  • and serve the purpose He attached to CoRo

Handmade is heart work.
Purpose work.
Kingdom work.
And I refuse to abandon what God blessed me with.

🎨 Catch Us at MakerPlace by Michaels — November 15

This weekend, we’re taking that same heart, same purpose, and same energy straight into MakerPlace by Michaels.

If you love handmade holiday gifts…
If you’re shopping for teacher Christmas gifts…
If you want meaningful handmade tumblers and journals this season…

Come through.

If you’ve never experienced CoRo in person — come see the heart behind the work.
If you’ve never shopped handmade — try it.
If you’ve been waiting to grab a gift — this is your sign.
If you just want to support a local maker — pull up.

I’d love to see you, pray with you if you need it, and help you find something that speaks to your soul.

Handmade isn’t a hobby.
It’s a calling.
And I’m honored to keep answering it.
