I've done this too many times where I don't ask for help, like I can do it all... and then I start screaming and yelling that I need a break.

I remember when I was in my 20s, I just had my son and the one thing my counselor told me was that I needed to set boundaries for myself and others. I asked, "How do I do that? What you mean, boundaries?"

She responded, "Boundaries is like having a farm full of animals. Each part of the farm has an enclosed fence that protects a set of animals, like pigs have their area, and chickens have their area, and so forth. Pigs don't mix with the chickens because they're bigger, and chickens don't mix with the pigs because they're smaller." Even though they're on the farm together, they're separated by boundaries."

I was like, "Ohhh, so telling a guy that I don't like it when he cheats is a boundary?"

I was so dumb.

Don't judge me LOL!

She said, "No... letting him know up front that you don't tolerate cheating is a boundary. You don't wait until the middle of the relationship to say it, you let him know up front. It commands respect for yourself and that you don't take no shit off of him or anyone else."

I was like, wow! I wasn't taught any of this when I was younger. I didn't see this in my home growing up.

But as I got older, I learned that setting boundaries becomes crucial for your well-being and success.
